I'm really excited to be offering a drum-birthing workshop this summer in Chorley using red deer hides . The rawhides are ethically produced made using traditional skills and as they are a natural product can vary.
Connect with the ancient craft of drum making using ethically produced wild deer hides of Red deer and native woods.
The workshop venue is The Harmony Hub, 15 Queens Rd, Chorley, PR7 1JU and includes a light lunch
The drum is an extension of you, your magic and your wild spirit. This is why so many people love birthing drums. It gives us the opportunity to journey to the spirit of the drum, honour the animals and trees that make up the drum and beater and work in sacred space to create something powerful and unique. something that has its own song, voice and spirit. It can also be a challenge, a journey of the soul and a massive achievement when you go home with a beautiful drum.
During the day you will be working with Red deer hides on an ash drum hoop which is locally made . You will be guided to painting a small image on the hoop with local artist Peter Yankowski, waxing it the hoop and lacing it in a traditional and ancient way. We will also be making drum beaters using either leather, felt or hand tanned salmon skin. There will also be an opportunity to make a small mala for the drum using crystals and antler. You will be given full support during the workshop.
We will be working sacred space and honouring the animals and wood used in the drum throughout the day with a short ceremony to finish to bless the drums.
The total cost is £280 for a 16-inch drum or a 14-inch drum. A light lunch will be included. The class size is limited to 8 people and a deposit of £100 can be made to secure your place. The total cost needs to be paid by 31st January 2024. You can pay in a few installments if you like. I will contact you when you pay your deposit to arrange further payments and to find out more about what you want to make
