It's great to be back in Bury, bringing accessible and affordable learning about plant medicines back to local communities.
Each month I will be running a 2 hour evening class in the Barn at Phillips Park, Whitefield in Greater Manchester.
The Elder tree is very common in the Northwest of England and was called the medicine chest of the country people for a good reason. The same reason that the Elder tree was also steeped with folklore of a deity that demanded respect. The Creamy white blossoms in early summer and the dark purple berries in autumn are much used by Herbalists and loved nature-connected folk. The leaves, bark and wood are also used.
In this two hour workshop we delve deep into the medicine of the elder tree, exploring the medicinal uses of the blossom and the berries through taste, learning and discussion. There will also be a demonstration of how to make the most of the elderberry harvest by making an elderberry rob. The cost is £20 and includes a comprehensive emailed handout with recipes. The class needs to be pre booked via paypal and if cancellations are made within 48 hours of the start of the class then refunds will not be given. We aim to make these classes accessible to all and there will be a few places available at a lower cost to those who struggle financially so please message me for details.
