The killer whale has a similar lifespan to humans. The female killer whale is also one of the only mammals along with women who have menopause. In contrast to women the menopausal killer whale swims to the front of the pod. She has a lifetime experience of how to survive, where the best feeding grounds are and she is a teacher to younger killer whales. Pods without a mature post-menopausal female have less chance of survival. Mother Nature intended menopause as part of our community thriving and surviving; and she does not make mistakes!
Sadly in modern Western culture menopause is often seen as undesirable, a hormone deficiency disease like diabetes or oven as some scientists have called it; Ovarian failure. Women also see menopause as a time of decline, loss of youth, and fertility and find they are becoming invisible. It's also a time of change, challenge and struggle as we shapeshift and transform into an Elderwoman, so revered in ancient and indigenous cultures. We and our culture have forgotten the power of menopause; this challenging female rite of passage of transformation to the Wisewoman.
These monthly two and a half hour interactive workhops are held in a supportive space combining the wisdom sharing of a women's circle, wisewoman herbal knowledge and strategies for support as well as shamanic drum journeys to seek wisdom and healing.
We cover a wide range of subjects from coping with Hot flushes! Night sweats! Anxiety, menstrual changes, Low libido, food for menopause, healing ceremony, becoming and elder, earth keeper, healer and shamanic journeys.
Facilitated by an experienced Medical Herbalist, menopause mentor, Shamanic practitioner and celebrant we will look at herbal medicine, healing foods and supplements.
